The transport of goods involves a great deal of paperwork and complicated coordination between consignor, transporter and consignee. A lot of time and money is lost in the process. As the largest online transport network in Switzerland, Pickwings promises to reduce costs and improve resource consumption in transport management.

On average, every fourth transport lorry in Switzerland runs empty. Empty runs occur especially often on the return to German-speaking Switzerland after deliveries to Western Switzerland. Pickwings aims to reduce the number of empty runs to 10% and consequently save over 400,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. The company offers a cost-effective and reliable transport solution for the delivery of general cargo as well as partial and full loads for private individuals and businesses.

Pickwings ensures all-round sustainable transport

Pickwings provides a real-time connection between shippers and transport companies via an online platform, enabling an efficient, cost-effective and paperless organisation of transports for all parties involved. Private individuals and companies who wish to ship something enter the route, the size of the cargo and when it can be picked up. The transport companies and drivers registered on the platform will be informed immediately when potential contracts are available. This leads to a reduction in empty transports. All transport companies are given the same opportunity to accept orders with this approach, which allows especially smaller companies to be more competitive. Pickwings mainly concentrates on small and medium-sized transport companies, which gain an advantage over large market players by digitising their fleets. The transport partners are prepared to operate on more favourable terms as Pickwings enables them to reduce their empty runs and achieve a contribution margin. Shippers also benefit from advantageous conditions and reduced administration costs.

More than 100,000 orders completed

Launched in February 2017, the platform already has 400 transport companies registered with a combined fleet of around 4,000 vehicles. So far, more than 100,000 transport orders have been executed, saving more than 5,000 tonnes of CO2. Since its foundation, the company has received various awards in logistics and innovation. In addition to numerous Swiss SMEs, large consignors such as and Hornbach now also use Pickwings’ digital solution to process their transport assignments. This is precisely why the SEF team of experts has awarded Pickwings the “SEF.High-Potential SME” quality label.
